The level of sun exposure and dangerous levels of ultra-violet radiation (UVR) puts all Australians at risk of skin cancer. Although outdoor workers face an even greater risk of skin cancer due to their increased levels of exposure to UVR over long periods of time.
This has recently been confirmed by a comprehensive study out of the University of Western Australia, which revealed that approximately 37% of males and 8% of females are exposed to solar UVR in the workplace. Figures which represent about 2 million of the Australian workforce.
The study also exposed that less than 9% of the participants surveyed used appropriate levels of sun protection. Professions that are among the highest at risk were farmers, trades people, construction workers and drivers.
