The Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment (NZ) has released a statement to organisations, urging them to remember their employee sun safety responsibilities. NZ and Australia have the highest rates of skin cancer in the world. It is estimated as many as 15% of employed New Zealanders work outdoors, with this figure as high as 34% in Australia.
Apart from providing sunscreen and protective clothing, employers are also required to ensure that information is provided to employees about identified hazards, including the risks caused by UVR, and the steps to be taken to minimise the sunburn and dehydration.
