Research into Melanoma Biomarkers Gets Go Ahead

Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer and the most common cancer for Australians aged 15-29.

In 2012 preliminary studies were done by Edith Cowan University in Perth, which identified 8 blood biomarkers that may indicate that somebody may be carrying a melanoma.

The National Health and Research Council has now been able to offer a development grant of $450,000 to enable Professor Mel Ziman and his team to expand on their original studies.

The latest study will involve 300 people, and it is hoped that efforts are going to be able to drastically improve early detection rates of melanoma.
