Australian scientists have apparently discovered a new ‘super sunscreen’ by studying how the coral on the Great Barrier Reef protects itself.
Being located in the shallow waters off the Queensland coast, the Great Barrier Reef has been hit by some of the worlds harshest UV rays over millions of years.
By studying what the coral does to produce natural protection against UV rays, scientists are believed to have been able to reproduce a similar type of UV protection.
