Queensland researcher, Dr Graham Leggatt of The University of Queensland Diamantina Institute, is one step closer to finding a less invasive method to treat non-melanoma skin cancer.
Squamous & basal cell carcinoma are two non-melanoma skin cancers that affect over 130,000 queenslanders every year.
The new research which is being supported by the Cancer Council Queensland is looking at using immune cell therapy to treat the non-melanoma skin cancers.
These types of cancers are usually frozen or cut out leaving scarring and lengthy recovery periods for the patients.
Australia has the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, with QLD being the number one state for the disease in the country.
